Preparation Steps for Exporting Pets to Japan
＜Flow＞
- Step1. Microchip Implantation
Step2. Rabies Vaccination (At Least 2 Times) - ・Dogs and cats must be identified with a microchip.
・The microchip must be readable and implanted before any rabies vaccination.
・Dogs and cats must receive at least two rabies vaccinations after microchip implantation.
・The first dose must be administered when the animal is at least 91 days old. The second dose must be given at least 30 days after the first dose.
- Step3. Rabies Antibody Titer Test
- ・A blood sample must be taken to measure the level of rabies antibodies. The test must be conducted at a laboratory approved by the Japanese government.
・This test can only be done after the second rabies vaccination.
・The antibody level must be at least 0.5 IU/ml.
・The test result is valid for 2 years from the date the blood sample was taken.
- Step4. Waiting Period (Minimum 180 Days)
- After the blood sample is taken, there must be a waiting period of at least 180 days, but not more than 2 years, before entering Japan.
- Step5. Advance Notification
- Submit an Advance Notification Form and related documents to the Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) at the airport or seaport in Japan at least 40 days before arrival.
- Step6. Pre-Export Health Inspection
- The pet must undergo a clinical health check within 10 days before departure.
- Step7. Government-Issued Health Certificate
- The pet must undergo another health check at the Animal Quarantine Station at Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thailand). This inspection must be done within 5 days before departure.
- Step8. Import Inspection Upon Arrival
- ・Dogs and cats will be inspected by Japan's Animal Quarantine Station upon arrival. If all requirements are met, an Import Quarantine Certificate will be issued.
・If the conditions are not met, the animal may be quarantined for up to 180 days, or be returned to the export country.
